Zane Vanderwood
Teacher/Choreographer
Zane Vanderwood started tap dancing at the age of five under the instruction of Carl Massey. Soon after, he began taking hip-hop lessons. At the age of eight, he took first place in a freestyle battle at Monsters of Hip-Hop. He has received scholarships at Monsters of Hip-Hop, LA Elite, and Hollywood Vibe. The dance groups of which he has been a member include Kontagious, Solid, and the Smash Brothaz. He has performed in the Hip-Hop Movement, the Club Stylz showcase at Monsters of Hip-Hop, Other Moves, The Nutcracker, The Snow Queen and numerous other shows.
Zane has choreographed for numerous productions. In 2015, Zane and his brother Graham directed, produced, choreographed, and starred in The Smash Brothaz Show for WICA’s Local Artist Series. In the 2018-2019 year, he was the co-director and hip-hop choreographer for the Island Dance Performing Team. He has also choreographed the tap scene and soldiers in WIDT's Nutcracker for multiple years.
Currently, Zane teaches hip-hop and tap at Island Dance. In 2017, Zane graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Economics.
